Reminds me of the situation with the arsenic life form from way back, though ENCODE project will probably prove to be of more lasting contribution.
Funny enough, I spoke with a graduate student in Michael Eisen’s lab today about the ENCODE project (but mostly other topics.) He shared the views expressed at the link and he told me that Eisen’s lab has a 3D printer which is partly why I think I might switch labs.
I think asking if it was worth it is a legitimate question, I’d love to say “of course” but for reasons that weren’t stressed by the media when they covered the ENCODE project.
They have a pretty website too, if that’s worth anything.
